Laser alignment + resin chocking+ in-situ machining
Fine-Align is a respected problem-solving, niche engineering company, founded in1992, with a long list of satisfied customers in the industrial and marine sectors.
As an EPOCAST approved and certified installation agent and distributor, Fine-Align can provide a highly-valued one-stop alignment and engineering package.
Our unique service package is based on four core elements: engineering expertise, machinery, measurement and resin chocking. This enables us to control all aspects of your engineering problem to give you a complete on-site repair solution from one source. ➤ more
Our package of services – should they be required – includes:
• On-site laser measurement and alignment
• Resolving foundation and grouting problems with epoxy resin chocking
• On-site machining, including line boring
• On-site measurement of complex objects using our API Laser Tracker and Verisurf Software
Keeping customers happy appears to be something of a speciality, as Fine-Align’s quality auditors discovered:
| “It was clear that Fine-Align’s customer satisfaction levels are approaching World Class. Its team has such a close working relationship with customers that routine accolades for their innovative engineering solutions could easily have been overlooked.” |
Fine-Align specialises in identifying and providing the best on-site repair solution for any rotating and reciprocating industrial machinery – whether in a factory, quarry, power station, processing or chemical plant, forge, press, etc. – or across the marine environment. ➤ more
With the benefit of our engineers’ depth of knowledge and experience, you will receive a sound, designed solution, carefully worked out and agreed in advance to meet your requirement – and a costly investigative site visit is rarely required. When we turn up on site (usually within 24 hours to most UK locations) we have everything we need to carry out your job and effect a speedy return to service.
Fine-Align is the approved and certified installation agent and sole distributor throughout the UK and Ireland for the versatile H A Springer Marine + Industrie Service GmbH EPOCAST System product range. EPOCAST provides a more efficient and effective alternative/supplement to steel bolting and cement/concrete chocking solutions.
The intense vibration and shaking caused by poorly aligned machinery – even normal movement caused by its working action – will cause grouting or foundations made of traditional cementatious materials to start to powder and, potentially, break up, shearing the bolts which are designed to secure the machinery in place.
However, the use of epoxy resin as a foundation – in conjunction with accurate alignment – will ensure that any machinery will perform as the designers intended throughout its lifetime. It is precisely for this reason that epoxy resin is increasingly being specified by the OEMs of any rotating or reciprocating machinery.
Reducing wear and tear, of course, increases machinery life with the enhanced longevity slashing your costs over time; moreover, reducing machinery downtime also increases your profitability.
EPOCAST is also highly effective for applications that have to withstand deterioration from chemical and acidic environments, unlike cement or concrete.
Fine-Align’s Managing Director, Andrew McGill, explains:
| “We’ve worked with epoxy resin chocking materials for many years, gradually expanding our equipment, capacity and range of services, from simple shaft alignment and in-situ machining to complex repairs on a significant scale. We can now supply a one-stop ‘umbrella’ service, supplying, mixing and installing resin chocking and damming materials quickly, ex-stock, with a team of engineers to run jobs smoothly from start to finish. Our engineers can also laser align your machinery pre- and post- chocking (as required), for accurate vibration measurement, and/or carry out in-situ repairs or adjustments. “It’s recognised as a valuable, cost-efficient service for the industrial sector where rapid response and reliable, proficient solutions are critical to ensure production line continuity.” |
Alternatively, Fine-Align can supply the EPOCAST and all damming materials and train your own people to successfully install in-house.
EPOCAST System products have enormous benefits over steel and/or concrete:
1. Require only a short 1-2 days curing time.
2. Will accept a steel or concrete contact surface.
3. Have far greater compressive strength.
4. Perfect fit compared to “fit where they touch” steel chocks.
5. No need for expensive and time consuming machining.
6. Offer superior resistance to chemicals (fluids, cooling fluids, lubricants, freeze, etc.).
7. Reduces vibration which in turn reduces the risk of broken machine components and worn bearings caused by shaft misalignment.
8. Holding down bolts remain tight, reducing the risk of metal fatigue.
9. Superior coefficient of friction between steel and resin (0.70) compared with steel to steel (0.15).
The most widely supplied products in the industrial and marine sectors are:
EPOCAST 36. A pourable chocking compound which complies with all the major Classification Societies/control agencies for quality, fitness for purpose and insurance purposes. Used with reciprocating or rotating equipment it virtually eliminates significant vibration beneath the base of the machinery.
EPOCAST INDUSTRIE. Used where no type classifications are required. The compound is particularly suited to chemical plant applications, being a highly chemical-resistant and damping material.
Fine-Align also supplies and installs other more specialised EPOCAST System applications upon request. ➤ more
