Medical Centre Equipment
Since 1982 £29,961 has been spent on equipment for the surgery.
A full list is maintained at the Medical Centre.
During 2005 an audiometer was bought to replace the one originally donated 20 years ago! Also purchased were some toys for the waiting room.
We also supported the Collingham Healthcare Education Centre at the Medical Centre as two of the committee joined the Steering Group to represent the patient perspective.
House Numbers
The doctors and other emergency services brought to our attention the great difficulty they have, especially at night, in finding houses without numbers. Our campaign to ensure that all houses are clearly numbered continues. “A number pinpoints your address.” This is a quotation from our local Fire Officer, Mr W Shaw. Thank you to those who have responded to this request. To those who still have not got a number on their property, do this now. Your life may depend upon it.
Our aims and objectives.
The aim of Village Care is to make provision for health related and social needs of people registered with Collingham Medical practice, thereby improving their quality of life.
The group was set up 25 years ago when staff at the Medical Centre had identified the problems patients without transport were having coming for their appointments. The transport service was set up to include visits to hospital and eventually expanded to include trips to dentists, opticians, shops and hairdresser- in fact anywhere where people find access is difficult.
Other activities have been undertaken as Village Care grew.
Funding.
We receive grants from Nottinghamshire County Council and Lincolnshire County Council to help support the transport service.
Donations, bequests and fund raising enable us to continue running our services.
Transport.
We have a team of 19 drivers who between them drove 30,026 miles in 2006. We undertook 3829 trips during the year for 280 people.
All the drivers and coordinators are volunteers who give hours of their time to support the scheme.
Next of Kin cards.
These personal details cards have been designed and are provided by a Village Care supporter. They are available at the Medical Centre.
Unwanted spectacles.
Any unwanted glasses can be handed in at the pharmacy and are collected and taken to the Vision Aid distribution point in Newark for distribution in the Third World. In 2006 over 1000 pairs were collected.
Village amenities.
During 2005 Village Care paid for the renovation of 6 seats in Collingham and 1 in South Scarle.
In the past thousands of spring bulbs have been planted in Collingham which continue to give so much pleasure to everyone after the dark days of winter. More Daffodils were planted in 2006 to fill in some gaps in the grass verges
Warm Wise and Well.
In February 2007 we worked with Nottinghamshire County Council and the Council for Voluntary Service to put on a second day for older people in Collingham. Over 80 people attended and enjoyed a series of talks and presentations on keeping healthy, safe and active as well as a good lunch!
Special Events.
In addition to our committee meeting we will be supporting the special events above.
Anyone is welcome to attend and show support for Village Care.
