From Rosie Scott, Collingham Parish Council
The Library Service is advertising for volunteers to help in the Library. If we can get enough volunteers it would mean that the library could revert to its previous opening time. I know the Library Staff would be delighted to hear from you. If anyone experiences any problems with the shorter opening hours, the lack of a mobile library please let a councillor know. We do need to gather this information to present to the senior management of the Library Service.
I have travelled on the buses and collected many of your comments about the new timetable. Again we are trying to put all of these together to present the problem to County Councillor Jackson, the Nottinghamshire Cabinet Member for Transport. If you wish to comment please let a parish councillor know. We need information about the way in which the new timetable is affecting the people in the village in every way.
For some considerable time we have received a grant from Nottinghamshire County Council to maintain rights of way in the parish. This was the Parish Paths Partnership – usually called the P3. The department which dealt with it has now been disbanded and we will not receive the grant any more. As the County Council has a statutory duty to maintain rights of way it has divided the county into five countryside access areas, each with its own access officer. The County Council will appoint a contractor to cut footpaths and bridleways for the whole area. The parish will not have a working relationship with the contractor any more. We have been warned there might be only one cut this year, not the usual two or three.
However, we have decided to walk, monitor and report on the footpaths and bridleways in the parish, as we did for the P3. We will collate the reports and use them in negotiations with the County Councils. The ‘walkers’ will be Chris Allen, Michael Dowell, Derek Evans, Celia Moody, Rosie Scott, and we have co-opted Bill Jackson and Richard Woodhurst, who have long experience of the P3 system. Collingham is one of the biggest parishes in the County, with many rights of way, again we need your help to report any problems over the walking season. All the branches of the Ramblers Association in Nottinghamshire are helping in this project.

JUST SAY NO!
Collingham is under attack!
This may be the first time since the Vikings first sailed up the river Trent that Collingham has been pillaged, but it is no less traumatic and strikes deep at the heart of the village, and village life! Nottinghamshire County Council (NCC) wishes to practically close our Library, and to close our Fire Station completely! I would love to be able to say these moves were ill thought out, but I can’t, as it’s fairly obvious they haven’t been thought out at all!
